Chemical use is uneven. A reagent can sit untouched for three weeks and then lose four litres in two days, which is exactly where an average leaves you short.
Labnize reads the consumption you have already recorded and turns it into one number per chemical: how many days of cover are left at the current rate. When that number gets short, the alert goes out and the item drops into the order list, so purchasing starts well before anyone finds an empty shelf.
